Featured Shop of the Week: Arielle's Custom Jewelry

Arielle's Custom Jewelry is our latest Featured Shop of the Week!

Arielle has many talents, including creating one-of-a-kind jewelry to art photography, and she has a blog where you can follow Arielle's Custom Jewelry updates.

Arielle says, "Always I have had an interest in gemstones both for their beauty and their properties.  I've gone from collecting shale from a Pennsylvania driveway to perusing the largest gem and bead shows I can find!

Eventually, I became attracted to gemstones in bead form.  I started making necklaces for friends and family, for birthdays and holidays, until I had so many I had to devote a whole wall to house them!

Starting a shop on Etsy was my natural first and best step.  Almost three years and over three-hundred sales later, I still devote just as much of my time to perfecting my shop, scavenging for gemstones and beads, researching fashion and the latest trends, and, of course, creating!

Designing and making jewelry is not only my work, but a passion and joy!  Beading is meditative, and I try to incorporate that peaceful, happy energy into each and every piece. "

When asked about the challenges she faces with having a business, she says, "No one gives you a "How to Start and Run Your Business" To-Do List!  There's advertising, photography, shipping, packaging, bookkeeping, supply shopping, etc., and somewhere in there you still have to find time to create!  The hardest part is figuring out what I need to do at all times and organizing the time to do it in."

Arielle's favorite things include the band The Flaming Lips, Thai extra-spicy food, the book Siddhartha by Herman Hesse, and photography. Her favorite way to relax is beading, and her favorite season is fall, but she says "we don't get that here in Florida!"
Arielle says the best part of her items are "Each and every single necklace, bracelet, and pair of earrings at Arielle's Custom Jewelry is one of a kind!  I never repeat a work!  So when you wear my gems, you can know for sure that you are the ONLY one in the world wearing it!"

Arielle is offering all Violet's Buds fans a discount code for her Etsy shop! Enter code: VIBLOG2 at checkout for 20% off your purchase. If you make a purchase during Arielle's Custom Jewelry's featured week, you will earn 25 extra entries to the giveaway!

Featured Shop of the Week: Beads to Blooms

This week our Featured Shop is Beads to Blooms.
I first (virtually) met Anna on Etsy, when I came across her beautiful beaded flower hair clips on team  Yay For Trades Etsy treasury. (side note: if you like to trade/swap, Etsy teams are a great way to get started) I just had to have a beaded flower for myself! The photos do not do justice to how beautiful her clips are, and they are even more versatile with the ability to switch from alligator hair clip to lapel pin!

Anna originally started as quilter. She says, "I always loved the use of textures and colors. Then a few years ago I inherited my grandmothers ornament making supplies. She made satin ball ornaments for over 30 years. I tried making them for one season and just wasn't for me. I then found an idea to make ornaments strung onto wire and wire wrapped to form beautiful beaded flowers. These too were very time consuming and switched to jewelry making and still pondered how to make the beaded ornaments simpler. It then occurred to me after a season of making the ornaments I could make them smaller and wear them year round as accessories. They have now become smaller simpler but beautiful beaded floral accessories for all ages. Which is so fitting because ever since I was a child I've always admired beautiful colorful gardens that inspires me to create wonderful colorful creations."

Between her love of using colorful textures of beads, and colorful gardens, the perfect shop name was finally born: Beads to Blooms.

Anna says, "I am still quilting and am the youngest member in our local quilt guild. I create quilts with my mother Nancy Neumann. I'm the slave driver finding patterns for our next project, she'll sit at the machine sewing, I'll piece together, iron the seams. Between us we create fabulous creations that are just full of life and vibrant color. You can find our fabulous quilts at: www.patchworkartquilts.etsy.com"

"Color has also inspired my photography. Year after year watching seasons of color come and go and I thought to myself why not capture those seasons with the eye of the camera. I haven't been able to put my camera down since. I decided to have cards printed so others could cherish my wonderful photography. You can find my cards in my Etsy shop and I'd be more than happy to do custom prints. My creations are ever changing and always seem to find something new to try, especially if it involves texture and color."

Along with many home-based businesses & crafters, her biggest challenge is finding the right market. "I live in a very small rural area and my creations are too different to draw much interest. I rely on the internet for most of my sales, and that too is difficult since I did just open a new shop for my hair clips and cards. Having to start over to find the right clients for my items. I do try craft shows but I would do much better if I was in a larger city. I do hope once my items are out there and loved it will draw in more buyers. Most important thing now I have a perfect shop name, which took years of changing names to find just the right one. I can only go up from here."

You can find Anna's work online in several places, including www.beadstoblooms.etsy.com

https://twitter.com/artsfordesire (old shop name)
http://pinterest.com/moonandesigns (original shop name)

http://www.etsy.com/shop/patchworkartquilts (art quilts)

Anna loves to network  in person, "I love hearing others life stories, or getting to fellow Estians through the internet." Her favorite colors are lime green and purple, and she says, "I love Italian food, watching a movie is my relaxation, my favorite drink is raspberry ice tea, favorite seasons are winter and summer (if it's not too hot), favorite animal is my Italian Greyhound Daisy who I rescued from the cold months of winter a few years ago."

Beads to Blooms is currently offering 15% off her Etsy store, and for Violet's Buds fans, you will get an additional 5% off! Plus, she is having a blow-out sale on her floral/fern cards. Buy 20 cards and receive a FREE $15 Hair Clip Brooch Christmas Ornament. Plus the 20 cards are on sale too!

Anna is generously giving away a beautiful 1.5" x 1.5" teal gold bobby pin hair accessory, or a custom item of your choice! The flower was created with teal gold painted on clear round glass beads, teal beads, and gold seed beads strung onto wire. Adorned in the center is a gold stardust floral bead. On the back she's attached a 2" long silver bobby pin. Such an adorable hair accessory and would be a great bridesmaid gift! If this flower pin doesn't tickle your fancy, she would be more than happy to make a custom hair accessory just for you :)

Featured Shop of the Week: Pretty Socks

One of my obsessions is cute socks. I have more pairs of socks than I know what to do with. Socks of every color & pattern, except white because that is too boring! Now I'm passing the sock-obsession to my daughter, and this week's featured shop, Pretty Socks, is a perfect way for us to indulge.

Owner Heather Kufleitner started Pretty Socks "4 years ago when my then 3 year old daughter HAD to have a pair to match every shirt she owned. With the help of my grandma, I learned the basic chain stitch and the rest is well, on Facebook! To see the smile and joy on her face as each sock was created is the reason I now have my business and love what I do!! My biggest influence and creator is my daughter as she helps pick colors, buttons and is the Chief Post Office Reminder. An interesting fact about Pretty Socks is that I am able to make these while I work my part time job."

When asked about the challenges of having your own business, Heather said, "The most challenging thing about my business is creating something new and different. Sometimes I feel like there are only so many times you can put certain colors together or make the same sock. It is all about what the customer wants."

Some of Heather's favorites are, "Making socks and cross stitching are my ways to relax when they should really stress me out. You will see a lot of purple which is my favorite color. I am not to tell you my favorite animal as that is December's Sock of the Month. To find that out, you will need to visit my page towards the end of November :)"

Aren't Pretty Socks fun? Do you have a little one that would like a pair? Heather is giving away a pair of one of a kind Halloween socks, "Fraidy Cat" size medium (fits a shoe size 10 1/2-4).

Enter to win using the Rafflecopter widget below. The only mandatory entries are to like both Pretty Socks & Violet's Buds Facebook pages. We've included several other options to earn extra entries, including a few tasks that you can do daily to increase your chances of winning! The winner will be chosen on Saturday, September 22nd at 8pm CDT, and will have 48 hours to contact Pretty Socks to claim the prize.

Featured Shop of the Week: Solace in the North

The second installment of our Featured Shop of the Week program highlights the stunning work of Jordan from Solace in the North.

"I'm Jordan, owner of Solace In The North, and an experienced photographer who represents the Pacific Northwest. My influence is nature in-and-of itself. I feel that - since I've connected with the world around me - it's my responsibility as an inhabitant to expose the most beautiful parts of the northern landscape."

When asked what the most challenging aspect to having your own business, Jordan said, "Certainly promotion/marketing! I make sure to do my "daily rounds" of online promotion through Etsy teams, forums, blog posts, etc. I even drop by a shop I take interest in just to send a message that I like their listings! But drawing in the views and sales is definitely the most challenging."

Jordan's favorites include the color blue, seared ahi tuna from Anthony's restaurant (I feel my mouth watering). His favorite seasons are both autumn and winter, and his favorite animal is the grey wolf. when asked for a fun fact about himself, Jordan said, "Even as a landscape/nature photographer, I used to absolutely abhor trees. I was born in sunny southern California - the concrete desert. Moving up to Washington when I was 6 definitely changed things, that's for sure! When I got here I was like, "Oi! What's up with all these trees?!"

As you can see, Jordan is a talented photographer. I encourage you to visit his Etsy store: http://www.etsy.com/shop/SolaceInTheNorth and his blog: http://solaceinthenorth.blogspot.com/

I'd love to know, what is your favorite photo from Solace In the North? Two of my favorites are Color Summer Grasses, and Misty Ocean Beach.  Comment below with your favorites!

Feature Shop of the Week: Monkey Do's Boutique

I am very happy to feature Monkey Do's Boutique as our first ever Shop of the Week.

Monkey Do's Boutique owner is Crisstina Kerr, who enjoys making unique items just for you and your child. She makes a little bit of everything, including hair accessories, custom jewelry, tutus, embroidered kids clothing, blankets, nursing covers, car seat/stroller canopies, and much more! You can see these items on Monkey Do's Boutique Facebook business page.

Crisstina writes: "I am a stay at home mom of a spunky two year old daughter and I attend school for Business Administration full time. I started this e-business because I love sewing and crafts and i would love to make it an actual family run store front one day."

When asked about the most challenging part of running her own business she said, "It is a lot harder and more time consuming than most think. Every aspect of the business I do alone, and balancing all that with 6 classes, a toddler, and everything else life throws at me is hard and something I have not quite perfected yet but I keep going because the great things in life are never easy to obtain"

In her spare time, her favorite thing to do is spoil her daughter, and take trips. Like many of us stay-at-home-moms, if Crisstina ever gets the opportunity, she likes to just relax on the couch with her family.

Crisstina is offering one lucky fan the opportunity to win a Mother's Nest piece of jewelry. The winner can choose between a necklace, ring, or bracelet which can be customized. The winner may choose the wire color, plus the number, color, and egg size, and can add an optional bird charm.

You may enter to win the the Mother's Nest on the Rafflecopter widget below. The only mandatory entries are to "like" Monkey Do's Boutique and Violet's Buds Facebook fan pages. We've included several optional entries for you to increase your chances of winning.

The giveaway ends on September 8th at 5pm CDT, and the winner will be announced Saturday evening. The winner will have 48 hours to contact Monkey Do's Boutique to claim the Mother's Nest.

And the winner is...
