Photographer Joanna Biggs says, "I am finally doing what I love. After the birth of my child (we were told we couldn't have children), I decided if that miracle could come true, the dream of doing what I love could as well. I have a long way to go before it is my full time job, but I love capturing memories for people. I love seeing their faces light up when you nail the shot and it is going to be the big one over the mantle place."
"My love for photography motivates me, but in all honesty it is the hopes to one day afford to pay my bills. My mom keeps me going when I am discouraged. My mom is fighting an illness that they don't have a cure for. She has lived longer than expected and with a full and active life. I want to be able to take care of her like she has done for me. Photography is a way of life for me. I strive to make it affordable for everyone because capturing memories shouldn't cost you your first born."
Joanna admits, "I feel naked with out my camera. I love capturing every moment- the good, the bad, and the outrageous. Things change so quickly I never want to miss a moment. As long as people are willing to allow me the honor of capturing their most precious moments, I plan to be around. Its the only thing I have ever wanted to do."
Joanna says the most challenging part of having her own business is getting started. "I have a two year old and other than during photo shoots, my baby girl is almost always with me. Trying to get started on a tight budget and find balance is really hard some days. Networking isn't always possible between nap times, errands, regular work and life in general. I wouldn't trade it for the world but some days it gets rough. I am slowly building up a clientele but all my business is word of mouth and referrals so it is still more famine then feast. Balance is hard because I don't want to take away from my little girl and her momma time and if something goes wrong its just me. I have been blessed though that all the problems that have arisen have been minor."
"I love coffee.. If there is good creamer and a never ending pot of coffee I will drink it from morning to midnight. Give me some chocolate and I may never leave. I love to do crafty stuff. Scrapbooking used to be my number one hobby and I hope to return to it when my lil half pint goes off to school. For now, it is kid crafts and hair bows. My latest project was redoing her little tikes coupe. I would love to learn to knit, sew or crochet someday."
"I have been taking pictures of others for 12 years now, but I went professional last spring. When I had my first non-relative customer, I was beyond nervous. It is just me and my camera. I have no studio, though someday I would love to have some land out in the country and a studio for when the weather isn't so cooperative. I strive to be the best at what I do, and am always trying to learn new things from my mentors, books, and youtube. I am just a small town girl with a Texas size love for the art of photography!"
