Featured Shop of the Week- Fairy Tale Knits

I'm pleased to share with you our featured shop this week, Fairy Tale Knits, fiber arts shop by owner Dawn. Keep reading to learn more about this shop, get an exclusive coupon code, and enter to win a shop credit!

I am a stay-at-home, homeschooling mom of 4. I love knitting and listening to audio books. I learned to knit from my grandmother when I was 9. I only learned the knit stitch then, but I wanted to learn more. When I was pregnant with my first child I picked it back up and since then I've knitted more and more. Now I'm never without a project. I've taught knitting at our homeschool co-op and to both my daughters and will teach my sons when they are old enough.

I started dyeing yarn because I couldn't find the color I wanted for a shawl I wanted to make myself. That was in 2009 and I was hooked right away. I started experimenting on my own and in 2011 I opened Fairy Tale Knits. I began only selling hand dyed yarns but last year I started selling hand knit items. (Both RTS and custom knits).

I love dyeing yarn because it lets me combine 2 things I love, color and yarn. I enjoy custom orders, both knits and dyes because I enjoy making what my customers envision. I love all colors except muddy brown but my favorites are red, pink and purple. Every hank of yarn is inspired by a story or nursery rhyme.

I keep creating because I love it. I can't imagine not doing this. I get motivation from many places, nature, paintings, pictures, anything with lots of color. What I love most is seeing what I create loved. Whether it's yarn that's knitted up or a hand knit item that's worn and used over and over.

Dawn admits that like many small business owners, her big challenges are reaching customers and organization. Her favorite food is lobster, favorite beverage is a pina colada. She enjoys relaxing to an audiobook while knitting. Her favorite fibers are alpaca, then wool/silk blends Dawn's favorite animal is a dragon, and favorite season is fall with winter a close second.

You can find Fairy Tale Knits on the shop website, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Dawn is generously offering a $10 Store Credit for any instock or custom order to one lucky fan. Does not apply to shipping, and credit will expire June 2014.
