This week our featured shop is NrrdKnits, and owner Amanda Moore.
It all started when I decided to auction off the chance for someone to have their character made into a doll, on a MORPG that I was playing a few years ago. I received 10 million zenny, in game money, for the doll. He is a high priest named Mr. Fish, who is very happy in Canada with his human counterpart. The idea of starting a legitimate business from a hobby is a huge undertaking, and there have been hiccups and small problems along the way. I am very glad to say we have the foundation for a great team of artisans and brilliant minds working to come up with the best that geekery, or anything really has to offer.
My family is the biggest influence on me. My two sons, Ash and Dante are my best critics. I tried to throw away an old toy that I knit and Ash said 'No, it's pretty mom.' I let him keep it. Hearing my cupcake say how awesome I make is or how proud he is of me for working so hard to get where we are with Nrrd Knits is a huge motivator. The best thing about what I am doing today, is that I can take my work wherever I may need to go, so I don't have to give up time with my children to show them the value of hard work and determination.
Trying to figure out where to begin and constantly having to create the next big thing on a deadline is the hardest part. The stress is a blessing for creative motivation.
Sometimes, I buy yarn for no reason at all. I have a problem...
No, but seriously, everything we do is by hand. A pair of needles, scissors, crochet hooks. It doesn't matter what it is we are making we do our best to create everything to the absolute standards of awesome. We love to hear what you guys think we should come up with next, in between our sudden strokes of genius.
Amanda's favorite color is robin's egg blue. Her favorite movie is, Nightmare before Christmas, and book is Lamb by Christopher Moore. She says its the "Only one that has ever really made me cry." She likes to relax by playing Disc golf and "spending time with my monsters."
