Featured Shop of the Week- Twisted Thread and Hook

I'm pleased to feature one of my favorite shops this week, Twisted Thread and Hook and owner Magda.

I created Twisted Thread and Hook out of love for crafting. I've done many different crafts throughout my life, however, crocheting was always the craft I came back to over and over again. I wanted to sell fine thread jewelry – I would crochet original designs with a very thin thread and a tiny hook. However, I realized that this was not something that I was totally committed to so I stated researching. Somehow, I went from the very tiny hook to one of the biggest hooks.

Now, instead of straining my eyes, I'm working out my arm muscles handling heavy rope! After I made my first cotton rope rug, I was hooked. Rope give rugs such a different texture and look from the traditional rugs. It also lets me incorporate another thing I love which is water and beach. Many of my designs are nautical themed.

Cotton rope rugs were only a start of my rug madness. Now I also use natural jute rope to create eye catching entryway rugs and doormats as well as fleece to make soft, colorful rugs that perfect for kids' rooms.

Recently, I also introduced to my shop rope coasters and rope baskets. I think you can tell I'm obsessed with rope decor. I already have another idea in my head for rope wall decor – just need to find some time to make it happen!

My time is divided between my business and my family. My two kids (4 and 6 years old) are my biggest supporters of my rugs. They love to see what I'll make next. Sometimes, it's not easy to be a mom, a wife and business owner. It gets crazy and stressful at times (don't mention “tax” word around me!), yet I'm happy. I'm happy because I get to spend time with my kids and because I get to share my passion, my craft with others. It feels awesome!

The most challenging part of the business is to stay organized and focused. I love creating my rugs, but this is just a small part of running a successful business. I love the fact that I can set my own schedule, but I'm also the one to make sure I do follow that schedule and stay focused on my goals.

If the weather is not so good, my favorite way to relax is to watch a good movie with crochet hook in my hand and my hubby by my side. I have a hard time sitting down without crafting!
I do love the outdoors when it's warm outside. We go camping few times a year as a whole family. This year, since the kids are a bit bigger, I'm hoping to go back to kayaking which is a such an awesome way to experience the nature and relax.

The biggest motivation is my crafting community. Sometimes doubt seeps in, or I'm going through some difficult time. My crafty buddies are always understanding and know how to cheer me up and erase the doubt. I can truly say that since I started my business, my life changed tremendously. I love the handmade movement and supporting indie businesses. I've got introduced to a whole new world... I think I'll stick around... for a long, long time!

  2. I would have to say that the butterfly rug is my favorite! My daughter loves purple as well, and I have really been into butterflies lately. :-) http://twistedthreadandhook.storenvy.com/products/2425533-purple-butterfly-rug-handmade-for-children-room-decor-or-girl-nursery
