Featured Shop of the Week: Crystalized Designs

I am pleased to introduce you to our featured shop this week, Crystalized Designs

Hi! I'm Crystal from Crystalized Designs and I love everything crochet! I taught myself how to crochet and it became a huge part of my life when I was put on bed rest with my second child. Not being able to do much, I started making photography props for when my son would be born and I have only gotten more in depth in crochet. I started by working off of others' patterns. When I joined one of my favorite designers testing groups, I was encouraged to start designing myself. I love coming up with new idea, using new stitches. But I still also love to work off patterns from the countless other great designers!!

My biggest challenge of having my own business is taking the right amount of time out for my family. Because crochet is something I love to do, I often find myself putting off things that shouldn't be. My children are growing so fast and several times a week I catch myself mid-stitch, put down my project and go play with them. Before I know it, the won't want to play with me and I don't want to look back and think, "if I only hadn't crocheted so much!"

Featured Shop of the Week: Mystigail Adornments

Our Featured Shop this week is one of my favorites, Mystigail Adornments. I received one of her pretty bracelets and I love it!

Mystigail Adornments owner, Susan describes how she got started- "Back in November, my oldest daughter received some handmade beaded jewelry from her friend for her birthday. It was gorgeous, so I started talking to the friends mom. She gave me a few pointers, and it seemed easy enough, so I made a couple pieces for secret santa gifts. Then I was hooked! I started making gifts for friends, and one of them, and my husband, encouraged me to sell them. I had already had a name picked out, and it seemed perfect for a business. It's the combinations of my daughters' names: Mystik and Abigail = Mystigail.

After a few months, I decided i wanted to get into hand stamping. I was even more hooked!"

Pancake-a-holic's ongoing experiments

GipsonWands brings you another guest post, this time its all about pancakes.

Breakfasts on the weekends are a big thing for me. I’ve tried to instill a love of breakfast in my daughter. It seems like every weekend I have her asking me to make pancakes and I’m all too happy to oblige. She loves to get on a step ladder and watch me make them. But just buttermilk pancakes can get boring so I’ve been spicing things up by adding creative ingredients.
So, for you’re reading pleasure I’ve decided to collect some of my better recipes, they haven’t all been winners.
I’ve fallen in love with the “just add water” type of buttermilk pancake batter (I found a large package of it at Sam’s Club) and have had some great success with it. The mix makes adding extras easy.
Strawberry shortcake pancakes
1 cup mix plus water per pkg directions
1 teaspoon Lemon extract
1 tablespoon Freeze dried strawberries slightly crushed (optional)
Sliced Strawberries for topping
Whipped cream/cool whip

Featured Shop of the Week: Unique Creations by Tracy

We are happy to announce our Featured Shop of the Week program is back! This week we are pleased to feature one of our blog sponsors, Unique Creations by Tracy. She has a great shop, and is giving away a custom owl to one lucky fan!

Unique Creations by Tracy was started in April 2012. Owner Tracy says, "In January 2012 I made a goal to learn to crochet.  Within a month I had friends and family asking me to make things I was crocheting from pictures I share on my personal Facebook page.  After multiple inquires I decided I would open up my own store on Storenvy.  I named it Unique Creations because I was unsure at the beginning if I would just sell crochet items or other crafts too that I make so I wanted to leave it vague.  The crochet items took off and so that is now what I sell.  I make hats, loveys, headbands, owls, pillows, stuffed animals, and much more.  Besides what I listed I also do some custom crochet items for customers if they are looking for something that I don't all ready make."

Pack Your Summer Camera Bag

Contributor Verte Photography has another great photography tip post for you!

Summer is almost synonymous with vacation. Regardless if your taking a day trip, stay-cation, road trip, or flying abroad.. I've got your back with these 5 tips on what to pack in your camera bag!

1. Rain/Sand cover.  This is a really great item to pack in your bag, and simply leave there. Most are plastic and fold down to take up virtually no space. I love these little bags, because while they are designed for photographers shooting in rain, or humid conditions they also make great added protection around the pool, lakes, and ocean!! Protecting your camera from water is HUGE! Nothing fries out electronics faster then water! Except possibly sand! I couple of little sand crystals in your lens (Dslr, or point and shoot alike) and your looking at some $$ for repairs or possibly purchasing a new one all together!

This little bad boy can be found in many forms from Amazon or your local camera shop. The plastic covers aren't really made for long term use, but with care you can get more then your monies worth since they start at only $6!

The heavier duty bag for SLR style cameras is WELL worth the investment! Again I found this one online at Amazon starting at $12 and is built to be the last one you would "need" to buy!

Now, these are designed for larger slrs... they would work fine for bridge cameras with lens that extend out... but they make them for point and shoots, as well as other electronics like ipads, phones etc. Just remember your looking for a bag to shoot with, not simply something to protect from splashes... if you have to take it out to shoot, it wont help!
