Make a Rag Rug

We're welcoming back our guest contributor Tessa from Krmbal, who is telling us about making a no-sew rag rug.

Our house has been on the cold side this winter and I’ve been looking for ways to help keep the heat in. Since we have all wood floors and a kind of half-basement, half-crawl-space being all cold under the house, I figured rugs would help keep something between the cold floor and the warm air.
Since there happens to be a lot of scrap textile waste at work, I decided to start saving up the scraps that we would otherwise throw away and learn how to make a rug instead of buying one.

Handmade Hoop Art

I'm excited to announce a new line of products that are now available in Violet's Buds Storenvy shop!

These hoop art pieces are made with the same fabrics as our hair accessories, and are embellished with handmade flowers, beads, buttons, and embroidery thread.

Even if you don't wear hair accessories you can now decorate with Violet's Buds handmade flowers. Hoop art is a great way to adorn any room, and makes a one-of-a-kind gift.

Custom hoop art is available in a variety of colors, patterns and styles!

Soon, we will offer custom letters in a selection of colors and patterns. Each piece will be hand-embroidered and include a small flower accent.

Our art and accessories are hand crafted using upcycled, reclaimed, or repurposed materials as applicable to keep our products as eco-friendly as possible.

Coquito by Red

Our friend Zei from Pelhuaz by Red is sharing a tasty drink recipe, just in time for the holidays!

I'm from San Juan, Puerto Rico. We have few Christmas Traditions and one of those is "Coquito". This is a tasty beverage that we mostly prepare on Christmas, much like eggnog. We altered the recipe just a little to make it more interesting. I have my own version that I do at home and share with family and friends in the Eve. I wanted to share it with you, as is very simple to prepare. Hope you enjoy it, as much as I do.

Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie Recipe

For Thanksgiving this year I offered to make a pecan pie, which we hadn't had in years. This was my first ever pecan pie, and I wanted to make it awesome.  I pieced together several recipes to get the taste I was going for, and I came up with this amazing Chocolate Chip Bourbon Pecan pie. It was such a huge hit that I've been asked to make it for Christmas too!

Snowman Thumbprint Ornaments

Christmas is drawing near, and I've had a lot of fun doing holiday crafts with my daughter. Each year for Christmas we like to create ornaments to give as gifts to friends and family. In the past we've made button tree ornaments (which you can purchase in Violet's Buds shop), salt dough handprint ornaments, and yarn ball snowmen. This year we made thumbprint snowman ornaments. Its a simple and fun process, great for any age!

Handmade Gift Trades

Just like last year, I was able to find several amazing handmade shops to trade with. Some were through the Etsy group I belong to, others are contacts I've made in a few crafting groups. Since these shops and artists were awesome enough to trade, I want to send some love their way. (I'm not posting photos of all of the items I received since I don't want to spoil the surprises)

It feels great to give handmade for the holidays, and year round. I hope you visit these talented shops and find something you love!
