Blogger Book Club

I am so excited to have found the Blogger Book Club!

Co-hosted by My Name Is Madeline, A Mile in Her Boots, and Confessions of a Busy Busy Bee, the blogger book club will tackle 12 books in 12 months. At the end of each month, the participating members will write a review of the book.

The club is open to everyone, and to join all you have to do is sign up at My Name Is Madeline. The books have already been selected, and writing a review is easy since they've come up with a list of questions to answer.

I think this book club will be a lot of fun. I've already ordered several of the books through my favorite site- PaperbackSwap. The site is free, and you trade your unwanted books with other members. You get credit for books when you send them, and use the credits to request books. Its a great way to clear your shelf of unwanted books and get new books.

Bento Basics- tips for making lunch fun

I'm happy to introduce our guest blogger this week, Diana from Diana Rambles. She is a crafty work at home mom who has a great blog. She is sharing with us her Bento Basics, Part 1.

making lunch fun bentos
A few years ago I saw some cute lunches called bentos online and thought they would be fun to make for my daughter. I was familiar with the term bento from living in Hawaii and traveling in Asia. I loved the cute spin that I was seeing on these boxed lunches. As we approached Kindergarten, I decided that I was going to make cute bentos for my daughter's lunch each day. I wanted her to be eating a full, healthy lunch and to feel comforted by being apart during the day with my loving gesture.

I am starting this series of tips here at Diana Rambles called Bento Basics to teach others how to make sure your child is eating healthy with fun lunches.

Tip: Introduce new foods by making their food fun! I didn't want to be sending junk food in my daughter's lunch, so when I give her new foods or ones she's not a fan of, I make them cute by using a cookie cutter, decorating, or making it fun.

Nutella introduced in a butterfly shaped sandwich. Skewered blueberries adds to the fun!

Introduced cantaloupe (starfish) and edamame in this under the sea themed bento.

My daughter won't eat peas at dinner, but she will in a cute lunch!
Tip: Making cute lunches doesn't have to be expensive! You don't need a lot of gadgets to make lunch cute. While there are lots of bento supplies out there, you can use simple containers, cookie cutters, and even make your own food picks.

Summer Wishes

Its time to break out the summer accessories in bold colors & fun textures. I've gathered a selection of my favorites from my wish list.

Here's a great pairing in ocean blues. The hair accessory is from Violet's Buds, the necklace & earrings are by Mystigail Adornments.

I adore this necklace by A Single Dream. It would be beautiful with a sundress, or even jeans and a tee shirt.

Chai Tea Latte recipe

Welcome again to our contributor, GipsonWands. This time he brings us a Chai Tea Latte recipe.

I'll make a confession, I love chai lattes. In fact that's all I get when I go to a coffee bar. Unless it's a caramel apple cider (but that's a completely different post). So when I watched the barista make one for me and noticed that all they did was open a jug and pour it in a cup I realized I could do that, and way cheaper. I bought chai in tea bags to brew my own but it never came out right. So I started buying those packets of chai powder and they were great, but still way expensive.  So I did an extensive search (I googled it and clicked the first link) and found a recipe for a DIY powder mix which I just had to try.

Fabric Challenge Reveal

It is time to reveal our creation from the Mad Maker's Fabric Challenge! This fabric was pretty far out of my comfort zone, but I really like the way everything turned out. You can learn more about Mad Mad Makers on their new website.

challenge fabric
Initially when I saw the fabric I thought about turning it into a skirt, which is what I did. I made this pink jersey knit skirt with the black lace overlay for my daughter. I included a pretty pink button that I got from Smalltown Dreamz. This was only the second skirt I've made, and I think it turned out ok.

Once the skirt was done, I realized the outfit wouldn't be complete without a coordinating hair bow. I used the black lace plus the pink jersey knit to make a cute flower clip.

A De-Stash Challenge

Hi, my name is Melanie and I am a Hoarder. More specifically, I am a tank top hoarder. I can't help it. I wear them year-round, to sleep, as a cami under a v-neck shirt, or lounging around the house. After all these years, I have acquired a sizable stash.

As styles change and improve, I have a stack of tank tops that are too short or aren't as comfortable compared to my new tanks. They are all still in wearable shape, but I don't wear them. I hate getting rid of something I *might* be able to use. Well, enough sitting around, it is finally time to turn these guys into something else.

First, I used this tutorial for turning a t-shirt into a tote bag from Daft Craft's blog. Since I was using a tank top instead of a t-shirt I was able to skip a few steps. The bag is really simple and cute. It doesn't look like much from the photo, but my daughter loves having her own bag.

Summer Portraits Tips

I'd like to welcome our guest blogger, Verte Photography. She has a wonderful summer portrait instructional for you. You can read more of her posts on her blog here.

Summer. The ultimate time to get outside, and focus on family fun! Many people take vacations, and attend family reunions, go to weddings... its all part of the Family Photo Season!

Today, I wanted to give you my top tips for capturing those family moments, without setting up a big "to-do" or stressing yourself out! You can add a lot to your basic snapshot by following a few basic photography guidelines.

1. Learn some basic poses. If your taking group images, nothing ruins a good portrait like poor posing. It doesn't need to be any big deal! By utilizing this basic triangle you can successfully shoot 2 - 20 people in a snap!

The Stair, is created when one subjects eyes are in line with the others chin.

You can easily add people, by going from a single stair to a triangle.

Now you can add as many triangles to your image as you have people!
